Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Prosthodontics
Endodontically treated teeth weaken overtime Due to loss of vitality and remaining tooth structure. So we have to restore it. In order to have a retentive restoration a post should be inserted and cemented inside the canal. Posts are divided into many categories. In this study we are comparing between titanium posts and fiber resin posts. We are also comparing two different modes of curing of luting cements.Dental luting agents represent the link between a fixed prosthesis and prepared tooth structure. In this thesis we will study the effect of cyclic loading and mode of curing on microleakage and fracture patterns of endodontically treated teeth restored with two different posts. Forty sound mandibular first premolars were brought. They were root canaled and obturated using lateral condensation technique, then they were divided into four groups. In the following, we will present the four groups. 1) FIRST GROUP: Ten endodontically treated teeth with fiber-reinforced posts cemented with dual cure cement. 2) SECOND GROUP: Ten endodontically treated teeth with fiber-reinforced posts cemented with chemical cure cement. 3) THIRD GROUP: Ten endodontically treated teeth with titanium posts cemented with chemical cure cement. 4) FOURTH GROUP: Ten endodontically treated teeth with titanium posts cemented with dual cure cement. The specimens were built using resin core material and put in acrylic molds and surrounded with polysulphide impression to simulate the bone and periodontal ligament. Specimens were subjected to 5000 cycle with load of 98 N and attached to a dropper to assure continuous feeding with methylene blue dye to assess microleakage using dye penetration method under dynamic loading
