Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology Summary: VEGF has been implicated as major contributor to the development of DR . Several SNPs have been thought to be associated with differential expression of VEGF . We aimed at investigating whether rs699947 , rs10434 SNPs of VEGF gene are associated to DR in an Egptian cohort of patients with type 2 DM . There was no statistically significant association between the studied SNPs and DR . There are conflicting results in different populations which may be due to gene - gene interaction or gene - environmental interaction
