Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Anaesthesia
This study was conducted to find a relation between oxygen reserve index (ORI) and arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) in pediatric patients with congenital cyanotic heart diseases. All previous studies focused on the relation between ORI and PaO2 in hyperoxic patients, but no studies were done to focus on PaO2 {u2264} 100 and its relation to ORI as in our study. This observational study was performed on 40 pediatric patients, aged 1 month-2 years with congenital cyanotic heart diseases presenting to the operation rooms or the catheter laboratory in Abul Reesh pediatric Hospital in Cairo university. After approval of the ethical committee and written patients {u2018}consent, the baseline reading of ORI was obtained after induction and maintenance of anesthesia on FiO2 0.21. Another reading was obtained after 10 minutes on FiO2 1. All readings were taken with simultaneous collection of arterial samples from the patients to assess PaO2 and SpO2% with recording the SaO2 readings obtained by standard pulse oximeter probe at the same time points of recording the ORI
