Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Summary: Laser - microfused titanium technique enables the creation of the implant surfaces by a computer controlled laser beam based on 3D virtual data. During the microfusing process, the desired implant and relative surface are produced by fusing nano - particles (micro - fusion) of metal powder by a focused laser beam. The implant and its surface are computer designed; the resulting surface is characterized by interconnecting cavities that replicate the bone structure, that is impossible to obtain through the traditional treating surface process (milling process). Direct laser metal forming technique (D.L.M.F) is a new rapid prototyping (R.P) application that allows the manufacture of tixos implant with controlled porosity, pore size, shape, interconnection and allows to fabricate implants with different shape and texture by laser fusion of titanium microparticles. Concluded results of the study, that laser microfused titanium implants (Tixos implant) in comparison to non laser managed implants (frialte 2 implant) gives no significant difference either in osseointegration or bone height after loading. So the use of any implant system does not require to choose with laser or not
