Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Microbiology and Immunology Summary: A survey of 9 fungal strains was carried to examine their ability to produce extracellular Ý - glucosidase. Among the tested strains, local aspergillus niger NRC1 showed the highest extracellular BGL activity. The production medium was optimized. Citric acid and ammonium chloride proved to be the best carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. A. niger NRC1cells immobilized on loofa by physical adsorption showed the highest BGL specific activity and the highest effectiveness factor (EF). The immobilized cells were able to produce BGL for 8 batches (56 days) with about 50% residual productivity. BGL was produced continuously for about 31 days using packed bed bioreactor with about 49.69% relative activity
