Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Graduate Studies for Statistical Research - Department of Information System Technology Summary: Nowadays, smart home systems represent one of the most promising technologies that enhance mainly the human lifestyle. Many works are achieved in this area ranging from smart lighting and air-condition systems to refrigerators and television systems. Such works get benefit from the added value of internet of thing existed devices like physical sensors that allow continuous valuable data streams. Smart home systems attempt mainly to use such an abundant amount of sensed data from the surrounding environment. Yet, there is still a need for enhancing the functionality of smart home systems by allows a flexible definition of user subjective preferences and reliable satisfying of such referencing. This work attempts to satisfy users' subjective views in smart homes represented as their profiles. Based on the flexibility of fuzzy set theory, it allows defining each user profile as a set of fuzzy rules for controlling each home device like a digital light lamp, fan, windowsill, and air-condition. Consequently, the user profile fuzzy rules are applied for devices controlling once a user entrance is sensed. An illustrative case study is achieved based on the proposed approach. It shows the lighting, heating / cooling, and every feature having digital devices that needed to be controlled from other places and be extended to allow user preferences in different locations in the same home of the proposed approach compared with other previous ones
