Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Parasitology Summary: It has been recently documented that the antimalarial drug mefloquine (MFQ) had interesting anti-schistosomal properties. This study aimed to assess the effect of single oral dose of mefloquine (400 mg/kg) and single oral dose of mefloquine (200 mg/kg) combined with praziquantel (500 mg/kg) on experimental Schistosoma mansoni infection. Mefloquine significantly reduced the worm burden, tissue egg load, number of liver granulomas and increased the percent of the dead ova within the granulomas
