The study was aimed at determining the prevalence of tinnitus in
temporomandibular joint disorder patients in adult Egyptian patients attending
department of Oral& maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University.
Methodology: The present study was conducted on 196 subjects. Egyptian patients
attending department of Oral& maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry , Cairo
University. A full questionnaire was filled for each patient through a face-to face personal
interview using simple, short, easily comprehended question including a section for
demographic information of age, sex, social and educational levels of patient. Also,
Research diagnostic sheet (RDC) was filled. Temporomandibular joint was checked in
every patient when patients opened or closed their mouth, mouth opening of every
patients was measured and palpated TMJ directly over the joint while patient opened or
closed the mandible and bimanual palpation to masseter muscles, preaurical area, temple
area was one in every patient, medical history was taken, thorough oral examination was
done by using light and mirror.

Results: Tinnitus as a common symptom in Temporomandibular joint disorder patients.
76.5% of patients had bilateral joint pain, 70.4% of patients had bilateral muscle pain,
55.1% of patients had left-side deviation mouth opening pattern, 91.8% of patients had
mild tinnitus.
Conclusion: Prevalence of tinnitus in temporomandibular joint disorder patients and
existence a strong relation between temporomandibular joint disorder and tinnitus.

مرضى اضطراب المفصل الفكى الصدغى هم المرضى الذين يعانون من الام فى مفصل الفك , عضلات الوجه مع انخفاض فى فتحه الفم مع الام فى عضلات الرقبه والصداع ومشاكل سمعيه مثل طنين الاذن , انسداد الاذن, عدم اتزان , اظهرت الدراسات ان % من سكان العالم يعانون من اضطراب مفصل الفك الصدغى
وهذه دراسه مستعرضه اجريت على المرضى الذين يعانون من مفصل الفك فى قسم جراحه الفم والوجه والفكين بكليه طب جامعه القاهره ¸ ثم مل استبيان كامل لكل مريض من خلال مقابله شخصيه وجها لوجه باستخدام اسئلة بسيطة وقصيرة وسهله الفهم بما فى ذلك قسم للمعلومات الديموغراقيه عن العمر والجنس والمستويات الاجتماعيه والتعليميه للمريض ثم مل استبيان RDC لكل مريضوتم فحص المريض باستخدام ضوء الوحدة والمرايا والفحص الاكلينكى للمفصل الفك وعضلات الفك وقياس فتحه الفم .
لاحظت هذه الدراسه انتشار طنين الاذن فى المرضى الذين يعانون من التهاب المفصل الصدغى الفكى.
67.5% من المرضى يعانون من الام فى مفصل الفك بالناحتين وان 39% من المرضى يعانون من الام فى مفصل الفك فى ناحيه واحدة فقط. 70% يعانون من الام فى عضلات الوجه بالناحتين وان 18% يعانون من الام فى عضلات الوجه فى ناحيه واحدة فقط وان 83% من المرضى يعانون من انحراف فتحه الفم ( 56% انحراف الفتحه فى الناحيه اليسرى وان 26% من انحراف الفتحه فى الناحية اليمنى . وان 91% من مرضى المفصل الصدغى يعانون من طنين الاذن بسيط الشده
