Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Method: It was a prospective study where one hundred and fifty pregnant women undergoing cesarean section were recruited from emergency unit of obstetric department, Kasr El Aini hospital. Women were randomly assigned to receive intrauterine misoprostol (group 1 = 50 pregnant female), Sublingual misoprostol (group 2 = 50pregnant female) or I.V oxytocin ((group 3 = 50pregnant female) following delivery of baby. The amount of blood loss as well as pre and post- operative Hb and Hct were calculated .Side effects in both groups were also recorded.Results: There were statistically significant difference was found between the three groups regarding to mean values of difference in hemoglobin were 0.80 ± 0.22 in intrauterine group, 1.12 ± 0.23 in Sublingual group and 1.50 ± 0.55 in oxytocin group with (P value 0.001).The mean values of difference in hematocrit in the three studied groups were 2.54 ± 0.58 in intrauterine group, 3.18 ± 1.19 in Sublingual group and 4.94 ± 1.41 in oxytocin group with (P value 0.001).The side effects were recorded regarding to Shivering and Pyrexia were higher in misoprostol group than oxytocin. While the side effect that was higher in oxytocin group, was the vomiting.Conclusion: According to the present study the intrauterine misoprostol was superior to sublingual misoprostol in prevention of intra and postoperative bleeding in cesarean section
