Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Architectural Engineering Summary: The research aims to clarify factors of designing a smart building envelope that adapts to variable environmental conditions to achieve thermal comfort, consists of three parts.The theoretical study reviewed thermal comfort, thermal performance of envelope elements, the revolution of Internet technology, and various smart envelope technologies and their role in indoor thermal performance efficiency. The analytical study showed examples of international smart building envelopes and the impact of their techniques in reaching thermal comfort.The empirical study was carried out by applying smart technologies to an office building and simulating it with Design Builder program. It showed the role of the smart envelope as an innovative solution that responds to variable environmental conditions, improves building thermal performance, and reduces energy consumption
