Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Clinical and Chemical Pathology Summary: Acetyl co - A carboxylase beta is a biotin dependent enzyme involved in fatty acid synthesis and inhibition of their beta oxidation. It has been found that gene polymorphism of this enzyme is associated with type 2 DM. Researches from different parts of the world have studied the association of acetyl co - A carboxylase beta (ACAC Ý) gene variation with DN and it was found to be associated with it in Chinese and Japanese populations. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of ACAC Ý gene polymorphism (rs2268388) and diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes Egyptian patients. This study was conducted on two groups: Group 1: 75vtype 2 diabetes patients with DN - diagnosed by albumin / creatinine ratio (A / C ratio) {u2265} 30mg / g - and group 2: 75 type 2 diabetes patients with normoalbuminuria (A / C ratio < 30 mg / g). SNP rs2268388 polymorphism was detected by taqman real time PCR. No statistically significant association was found between the studied groups and different genotypes (p = 0.77). There is no association between ACAC Ý gene polymorphism (rs2268388) and diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes Egyptian patients
