Despite improved neonatal care the past decades infections remain common and sometimes life- threatening in neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) . Sepsis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the newborns particularly in preterm and low birth weight infants despite advances in neonatal care overall case - fatality rates from sepsis range from 2% to as high as 50%
