The present study aimed at investigating and comparing the enhanced therapeutic effect of BMHSCs to AMSCs by AA on STZ induced early DR in male albino rat model.Streptozotocin: was supplied by Sigma Company (St. Louis,Mo,USA)ina powder form as 1g vial.The required dose was weighed using a digital scale and dissolved in citrate buffer.Ascorbic Acid (AA): was supplied by Development of Chemical Industries (Giza, Egypt) in a 1g Vitacid C effervescent tablet form.The required doses were weighed using a digital scale and dissolved in water Thirtyadult male albino rats with average body weight 200 grams were housed in the Animal House of KasrAlAiny,Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University and all procedures wereapproved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Cairo University.The rats were divided randomly into: Donor Group: It included 2 rats, one ratwas used for BMHSCs and the other for AMSCs isolation, culture, phenotyping and labeling. Group Ї (Control Group):It included 6 rats divided into:Subgroup IA: 2 rats received a single IP injection of 0.5 ml citrate buffer.Subgroup IB: 2 ratsreceived a single IP injection of 0.5 ml citrate buffer.Four weeks following confirmation of diabetes, 1ml of PBS was given IPtogether with daily oral AA dissolved in 0.5 ml water for 4 weeks. Subgroup IC: 2 rats received citrate buffer,PBS and AA as in subgroup IB
