Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a typical systemic autoimmune disease and patients with SLE are at a considerable risk of atherosclerosis. Immune mediated mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of both autoimmune disease and atherosclerosis. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is associated with premature atherosclerosis and an increased prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD)
