Worldwide 1 million neonatal deaths is attributed to neonatal sepsis alone, more over hospital born babies in developing countries are at increased risk due to the poor intra partum & postpartum infection control practice. Studying the cerebral blood flow (CBF) in neonatal sepsis & other conditions is of concern because the brain of a newborn is highly susceptible to blood flow fluctuations, moderate elevation of CBF can increase the risk of cerebral hemorrhage whereas moderate hypo perfusion can cause ischemic changes, thus in turn may have a key role in perinatal brain damage & both acute & long term morbidity
