Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Engineering - Department Of Electronics and Communications Summary: Channel assignment techniques are becoming of great importance for the cellular systemsdesign with the increasing demand and limited channels bandwidthOptimum channelassignment targets at efficiently assigning a number of required channels to each cell in the cellular system while satisfying some pre - defined compatibility constraintsIn this thesis , a modified discrete Hopfield neural networks algorithm is used for solving the channel assignment problem ; and the optimization procedure was performed locally on a per cell basisThe main objectives of the research are : to decrease the CPU processing time needed to reach the optimum assignment , and to apply the proposed algorithm on real - time problems where the system demand is varying with time
