Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Computers and Information - Department of Information Technology Summary: Fiber wireless (FiWi) networks have emerged a promising solution to provide a convenient harmony between the substantial access bandwidth and the cost effectiveness in the infrastructure deployment by integrating the complementary features characterizing both optical and wireless networks. FiWi networks will be able to tackle the shortcomings of both optical and wireless networks that manifest when they operate individually. Both optical and wireless network have been deployed to support different communication scenarios. Optical network supports the huge bandwidth and the high speed but it suffers from the massive cost of the fiber deployment and it does not support the mobility. Wireless network supports the mobility but it is limited in the capacity. FiWi networks are the integration of both these networks where optical network is the backend and wireless network is the front end. FiWi networks still face some challenges towards commercial adoption. One of these challenges is to solve the limited bandwidth constraint in the wireless networks using the enormous amount of bandwidth provided by the optical network. The bandwidth allocation process in FiWi networks is concerned with sharing optical resources between end wireless users on the same network. In this thesis, we focus on the bandwidth allocation of the integrated OFDMA-PON and LTE networks. In this thesis, a newly developed model of orthogonal frequency division multiple access passive optical Network (OFDMA-PON) is proposed using OPNET modeler
