Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Oral Biology Summary: Over the past few decades, the development of wireless technology has been rapidly flourished worldwide, including the increase in the use of wireless telephone communication. This has raised awareness about health risks. These devices emit electromagnetic radiations (EMR), which have hazardous effects on the human health in general and on the parotid gland specially.Oxidative stress is defined as the imbalance in the redox characteristics of some cellular environments leading to the production of the reactive oxygen species (ROS). Antioxidants are molecules that can donate an electron to a free radical without making themselves unstable. This causes the free radical to stabilize and become less reactive. The clove bud oil has a powerful antioxidant effect and the main component that possess an antioxidant activity of clove oil is the eugenol. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of clove bud oil in protecting the parotid gland against the harmful effect of mobile phones electromagnetic radiations. For the investigations to be carried out and the purpose to be fulfilled twelve adult male albino rats were randomly distributed into two groups, six as positive control group exposed to mobile phone electromagnetic radiations and six as experimental group exposed to electromagnetic radiations followed by administration of clove bud oil as a treatment
