Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power and Machines
The thesis proposes a new Power Management Regulation Control (PMRC) integrated with Demand Side Management (DSM) strategies to enhance the Energy Management System (EMS) of a stand-alone hybrid Microgrid (MG). Such MG is adequate in remote and isolated new communities with AC controllable critical and noncritical loads, so it can be located in Zafarana, Egypt. The proposed PMRC implies two-levels of control based on Multi-Agent System (MAS). Valley filling, energy conservation and load shifting are applied as DSM strategies to improve loads sustainability during system contingencies. Furthermore, in order to have an economic system study, the thesis focusses on achieving the optimum design and size of this MG to meet the load requirement using different optimization techniques while reducing the annual total cost including capital, investment, and operation and maintenance costs. Extensive simulation studies for various scenarios of MG management operation in a year were carried out using Matlab/ Simulink. In addition, based on the meteorological data of the proposed location for the past five years (2014-2019), the optimal sizing and configuration of the system were achieved using MATLAB M-codes
