Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Metallurgical Engineering Summary: In this thesis, two fatty acid methyl esters are extracted from two different vegetable oils using the single phase transesterification technique and used as base fluids for a conventional invert emulsion drilling fluid, as well as a high performance flat rheology drilling fluid. The performance of the newly formulated vegetable oil based fluids is compared to that of commercially available oil based fluids to evaluate the potential of their use for formulating an environmentally friendly high performance vegetable oil based drilling fluid for use in Deepwater HTHP wells
