By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: English Publication details: Cairo : Hassan Mohy Eldin Mohamed Hussein , 2019Description: 189 Leaves : ill. ; 25cmOther title:
  • تطبيقات الاستشعار من بعد للتخريط الصخري وتحديد تواجد الذهب ببعض المناطق في الصحراء الشرقية في مصر [Added title page title]
Subject(s): Online resources: Available additional physical forms:
  • Issued also as CD
Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Geology Summary: Natural resources constitute an important engine for the economy of Egypt , as well as a considerable source of fiscal revenues and foreign exchange. The challenges for the future economy and development in Egypt are the exploration of mineral resources. Such mineral resources not yet well mapped and determined, however various geological maps are available. The newly developed techniques of earth observations to capture images of the earth can be effectively modeled and functioned to determine the alteration zones of mineral resources as well as their spatial extension. This research study aims at integrating the new techniques of remotely sensed data (coupled with both field and laboratory analysis) for lithologiclal discrimination and mapping the potential areas for gold. At Wadi Hamad, Landsat 8 is used in integration with ASTER for lithological mapping. Band combination, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Spectral ratioing of selected bands of Landsat 8 and ASTER data used in synergy with geological field observation to differentiate between the rock units which proved effective in resolving geological mapping problems in the region. Short wave infrared and thermalinfrared channels of ASTER data were processed and interpreted for the potential mapping of the various rock types at the Fawakhir area
