Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Growth and Development Disirders Pediatrics Summary: Background : Cognition is the ability of the central nervous system to acquire, process, and act on information from the environment.Children with neuromotor disorders have multidisplinary disabilities, and their cognitive abilities may be affected due to motor delay. Aim: The purpose of the current study was to detect the degree of deviation of the cognitive abilities in CP children with different muscle tone disorders from their age matched normal peers. Participants and Methods: Thirty one children ranged in age between five to eight years with different muscle tone disorder (15 hypotonic), (16 hypertonic) and 17 age matched normal volunteer children participated in this study. They were selected from outpatient clinic of Faculty of Physical Therapy Cairo University, National Institute of Neuromotor System, Abu El-Reessh Children's Hospital and National Research Center.Cognitive abilities (attention /concentration and figural memory) were evaluated using Rehacom system. Results: the results revealed a statistically significant deviation in attention / concentration and figural memory levels of CP children with tone disorders when compared with than normal peers with high percentage of deviation in hypertonic type.Conclusion: cognitive abilities are deviated from normal in CP children with different muscle tone disorders
