Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: This research work investigates the possibility of using the simplified method (B1-B2) set-out in AISC-LRFD Specifications for evaluating the P-x effect in plastic analysis for 2D steel frames. Four frames with variable number of floors, number of bays, steel grades and cross sections were investigated and the output of the studied method (limit load factor) was compared using the available non-linear programs such as ANSYS and SAP2000 as well as previous researches such as (Merchant-Rankine) approximate method. It was found that using B1-B2 equation in plastic analysis as an approximation for available rigorous non-linear analysis gives acceptable results for 2D steel frames
