Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of General Surgery Summary: This study was conducted to evaluate the incidence of port site complications in patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy in general surgery department for different indications. 200 patient's files were reviewed retrospectively. This trial was carried out at police hospital / Nasr City between February, 2013 and February, 2015. These medical records have been investigated for development of port site complications. Clinical data, surgery history, past medical history and indication to surgery all were recoded. Major complications were omitted while only port site complications were included. Of 200 patients, only 17 cases diagnosed with port site complications only. Infection and bleeding were the most frequent complications (8 cases each); the incisional hernia was recorded only in 1 case. The male and female ratio was 7 : 10. Diabetes mellitus was the most frequent preceding factor ~ 30%. However, there was no medical history of significance in 50% of cases. Chronic calcular cholecystitis was the most frequent indication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Larger sized ports were not associated with emergence of complications
