Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Analytical Chemistry
Nuclear medicine techniques are essential tools for the diagnosis, treatment planning and management of cancer patients.Chemotherapy and radiotherapy as modes of cancer treatment, aim to treat the disease or to improve human life; however, they cause worse side effects and induce the inhibition of immune system. As a result, new trends to discover natural alternative therapies, especially from plants, are applied to defeat different forms of cancer with low toxic effects. Radiochemical purity assessment is considered an important quality parameter in the radiopharmaceutical quality control protocol. Radiochromatography is the most used method for determination of the purity and identity of radioactive materials. As time is a critical issue in nuclear medicine, it is important to assay the radiochemical purity as fast as possible with minimized effort and maximized safety. So, Miniaturization of the radiochromarographic methods is considered as one of the critical trends in radiopharmaceuticals quality control. In this thesis, we prepared three radiophytochemical compounds, namely⁹⁹ {u036B} Tc-Naringin, ¹³¹I-Ferulic acidacid and ¹³¹I-Vanillic acid, evaluated them biologically to explore their potential as tumor targeting agents for nuclear medicine applications. Also, we used different chromatographic methods involving miniaturized ones to determine their radiochemical purity
