Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: This study is mainly concerned with the calculation of the values of response modification factor at failure for idealized reinforced concrete dual systems designed according to the Egyptian code of loads ECP - 201 (2012). Parametric studies are carried out for five idealized dual systems that are modelled in three - dimensions as residential buildings with different configurations and variable parameters. SAP2000 software is used to model and analyze these systems using three-dimensional nonlinear static pushover analysis considering material and geometrical nonlinearity. The five systems are studied under the effect of several parameters such as number of stories and members stiffness factors using the as gross and effective moments of inertia models. Their effect on pushover curve, R- factor and its components, as well as story displacement, and inter - story drift are analyzed. Sixty regular reinforced concrete dual system model are studied to achieve this thesis goal. Comparisons between the results show the difference of some values and the indifference of others values including R- factor values
