Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of Statistics and Econometrics Summary: In the last two decades, the world has shown an obvious interest in the role of women in the family and society as participant in development as well as men. The labor force survey which is implemented by the central agency for public mobilization and statistics (CAPMAS) provides data about work status for women as well as data on demographic, social and economic characteristics. This study is seeking to identify the demographic, social and economic determinants that have an impact on women's participation in the labor force in upper Egypt using data of labor force survey for the years 2011 and 2013 and comparing between urban and rural areas. Descriptive and analytical methods (poisson regression model) were used for the data of labor force 2011, 2013 for six governorates in upper Egypt. The study find out that educational level of females, marital status and place of residence are considered important factors for woman participation in labor force and have a significant effect on the number of working women in Upper Egypt
