Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English
The present thesis aims to examine the impact of post crises on different postmodern societies belonging to diverse time periods. This thesis examines three plays: Saved (1965) by Edward Bond, Light of Darkness (Nour Al-Zalam) (1971) by Rashad Roushdi and The God of Hell (2004) by Sam Shephard. It employs selected postmodern concepts such as fragmentation, absurdity, hyperreality and semiotics to analyze the postmodern plays in order to highlight the effect of different crises in forming societies. Edward Bond{u2019}s Saved that depicts the invasion of the materialistic life to England after World War II, Rashad Roushdi The light of Darkness (Nour Al-Zalam) that explores Egypt after 1967 Setback, and Sam Shephard{u2019}s The God of Hell that highlights the American Society after 9/11 attacks which started what is termed as the War on Terror
