520			_aBitcoin was invented using distributed system structure to enable two entities to perform transactions without requiring a trusted third party such as central banks. This caused a revolution in the financial industry. In addition, Bitcoin introduced the blockchain technology that has been applied in other domains such as the healthcare industry. The healthcare industry is suffering from many issues regarding EHRs management such as EHRs tampering, data blocking among healthcare organizations, scalability issues, security problems and others. Also, tracking patients’ medical history has been a fatal issue as each patient does not have a unique ID across the healthcare systems which could lead to losing patients’ EHRs. Adopting blockchain as a new horizontal innovation may revolutionize the healthcare industry as the blockchain technology contains solutions for the previously mentioned issues especially for security concerns. The work in the thesis provided complete guidelines for building a blockchain system that can serve the requirements of the healthcare industry. These guidelines explain the suitable blockchain type, appropriate consensus mechanism and the available interoperability mechanisms that could be applied for the healthcare blockchain systems. Furthermore, we proposed a Federated Blockchain System (FBS) that can serve the healthcare requirements and reduce their issues. Additionally, the proposed FBS aims to use the features of blockchain to secure the patients EHRs and make them anti-tampering. Thus, each patient should have a verified medical history inside our system. Finally, we implemented the FBS using Cosmos Platform and validated our system.
