520			_a More and more academic studies have indicated the underrepresentation of female characters in movies in general and the discrimination between male and female characters in favor of male characters in particular. However, gender representation in drama movies from a linguistic point of view congregating Critical Discourse Analysis and Corpus Linguistics has rarely been investigated in the last decade. This study aimed to investigate the linguistic features utilized in top-grossing drama movies, and hoped to unveil how specific discourses are employed to form, strengthen, and reconstruct men’s and women’s identities and standards. The study employed an exploratory mixed-method design by applying the methodological principles of Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies (CADS) and critical discourse analysis (CDA) on the selected data, following the approach Gabrielatos and Marchi (2012), Partington et al. (2013), and Baker and Levon (2015), among others. The selected data was the scripts of ten drama movies which are ranked amongst the top-grossing movies in Hollywood in the last ten years (2012- 2021). The analysis of ten movie scripts revealed that, although some movies portrayed women positively, gender stereotypes remain prevalent in the selected scripts. Specifically, the findings indicated a persistent association between women and certain stereotypes, such as sexuality and emotionality. In contrast, men were portrayed more positively in terms of their social status and intelligence. These findings suggest that gender stereotypes persist in popular media and reinforce harmful societal attitudes towards women
520			_aتشير الدراسات الأكاديمية إلى انخفاض تمثيل الشخصيات النسائية في الأفلام بشكل عام، والتمييز بين الشخصيات الذكور والإناث لصالح الشخصيات الذكور بشكل خاص. ومع ذلك، فإن تمثيل الجندر في أفلام الدراما من وجهة نظر لغوية تجمع بين تحليل الخطاب النقدي واللغويات النصية نادراً ما تمت دراسته خلال العقد الماضي. هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من السمات اللغوية التي تستخدم في أفلام الدراما الحاصلة على أعلى الإيرادات، والكشف عن كيفية استخدام خطابات محددة لتشكيل وتعزيز وإعادة بناء هويات ومعايير الرجال والنساء. اعتمدت الدراسة تصميمًا استكشافيًا بأسلوب خليط من المناهج المتبعة في دراسات تحليل الخطاب المساعدة بواسطة النصوص اللغوية وتحليل الخطاب النقدي، متبعة مبادئ غابرييلاتوس ومارشي (2012)، وبارتينجتون وآخرين (2013)، وبيكر وليفون (2015) وغيرهم. اختيرت عينة الدراسة من نصوص عشرة أفلام درامية، تصنف ضمن الأفلام التي حققت أعلى الإيرادات في هوليوود خلال العشر سنوات الماضية (2012-2021). أظهر تحليل النصوص أن التمثيل النمطي للجندر لا يزال حاضراً في الأفلام، حيث تظهر النتائج توصل الأفلام إلى الربط المستمر بين النساء وبعض الصور النمطية، مثل الجنسانية والعاطفية، في حين تم تصوير الرجال بشكل إيجابي أكثر فيما يتعلق بوضعهم الاجتماعي وذكائهم. تشير هذه النتائج إلى أن الصورة النمطية للجندر تستمر في الوسائط الإعلامية الشعبية وتعزز المواقف الاجتماعية الضارة تجاه النساء.
