| 520 | _aFexofenadine, the active metabolite of the well-known and effective H1 receptor antagonist, terfenadine, is administered as the hydrochloride salt. Fexofenadine hydrochloride (FXD) is a non-sedating antihistamine that provides rapid, long-acting, and highly selective peripheral H1 receptor antagonist activity. It is used for allergic rhinitis and urticarial at a recommended oral dose of 30 to 180 mg. But it has a bitter taste, slightly soluble in water and having an oral bioavailability of 35%. The maximum plasma concentration is reached 2.6 hours (Tmax) post-dose. Various approaches have been applied to mask the taste and improve its solubility and bioavailability. Solid oral dosage forms represent the preferred class of products of the drugs that are administered orally. The tablets dosage form has a number of advantages.
