| 520 | _aGinkgo biloba and green tea have attracted interest due to their neuroprotective, potent antioxidant, and blood flow regulatory activities. The current study aimed to assess the potential effects of standardized extracts of ginkgo biloba (EGb 761) and green tea on ocular hypertension induced in rabbits by a single subconjunctival administration of betamethasone (3.5mg). The latter produced a sustainable increase in intraocular pressure (IOP), measured by tonometry, starting from day 7 post administration. After ocular hypertension has been established namely, day 7, animals were randomly allocated into 7 groups where group I was left untreated, groups II and III were topically treated with timolol (0.5 %) and EGb 761 (0.05 %), respectively, groups IV and V received orally EGb 761 (20mg / kg) and green tea (300 mg / kg), respectively, groups VI and VII received combination of either oral EGb 761 (20mg / kg) or green tea (300mg / kg) plus topical timolol (0.5 %), respectively. All the mentioned treatments were given once daily for 7 days | ||
