520 _aThe aim of current study was to evaluate the ability of different untreated aquatic organisms and chemically-modified by crosslinking with epichlorohydrin (EC₁, EC₂ and EC₃), or oxidizing by potassium permanganate (PC), or treated with sodium hydroxide to remove soluble lead and cadmium from water solution. Also, to determine the ability of these organisms for removal/degradation of glyophosate as organic contaminants (water soluble herbicide). The aquatic organisms (micro, macro algae and Eichhornia crassipes) were obtained from Botany and Microbiology Department, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Abu Qir beach (Alexandria) and El-Zomor canal (Giza) respectively. a) For bioremoval of heavy metals, the viable aquatic organisms were exposed to lead (Pb(NO₃)₂) or cadmium (CdCl₂) at a concentration of 10 mg/L for a time period of 240 min. All measurements were done in triplicates and performed in accordance with standard methods. These data were used to calculate the removal efficiency with respect to time, and to provide the necessary empirical constants to model the removal behavior.
