520 | _aThis study was conducted on fifty hepatitis C virus infected patients and twenty healthy controls. Serum and saliva samples were taken from each participant. All samples were subjected to third generation enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test for the detection of antibodies to hepatitis C virus. Serum samples{u2019} results were positive for patients and negative for controls but the saliva samples{u2019} results for patients and controls differed according to the three methods used for determining the cut-off value and the results ranged from 88 to 96% sensitivity and from 95 to 100% specificity. Aim of the study: The study aimed at evaluation of saliva as an alternative specimen to serum for the detection of hepatitis C virus antibodies | ||
