520 _aEight Pasteurella multocida suspected organisms could be isolated from the laying chicken samples with incidence of 6.25%. No Pasteurella multocida organisms could be isolated from duck, turkey and chicken broiler samples. The suspected Pasteurella multocida isolates were characterized morphologicaly and biochemically. The isolates were tested for their pathogenicity to laboratory mice and to 12 week old layer type chickens as well as tested genetically using PCR for KMT1SP6 and KMT1T7 specific primer for pasteurella multocida. Molecular testing of all isolates revealed their relatedness to pasteurella multocida capsular type A. Histopathological examination of organs from experimentally infected birds was also carried out which revealed inflammatory changes in the respiratory and parenchymatous organs of experimentally infected birds
