520 _aNon-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) are the most frequently seen cancers worldwide The objective of this study is to highlight the various pathological types of malignant tumors that arise from the skin which is the largest organ in the body, their methods of diagnosis, prevention and control in order to plan a strategy for their ideal management in the cases presented to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo university. This is retrospective study for 200 patients with non-melanoma skin cancer of head and neck registered at the NCI between January 2008 and December 2012. Our study revealed that, the mean age was 60.6. The ratio of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was 3.5: 1. In BCC most of the lesions were less than 2cm but in SCC most of the lesions were between 2 and 5cm. It was found that the multiplicity of the lesions on top of normal skin was only 5%. The distribution of site of NMSC in patients of this study showed that the scalp (27.5%). Most pathological BCC subtype was nodular (79%) of BCC patients and most SCC was moderately differentiated. Surgical excision was the principle mode of therapy in our study. Rotation flaps were the most commonly used reconstructive technique. Histopathological assessment revealed that 41 patients had positive margins and 5 patients had close margins. The recurrence rate of NMSC in present study was high 25%
