520 | _aPart 1: A novel series of bis-tetrahydro [1,2,4] triazolo [5,1-b] quinazolin-8 (4H)-ones were prepared via the three component reaction of bis-aldehydes with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and dimedone. The reaction mechanism was studied. Unambiguous structural elucidation of the regioisomers was done using DFT calculations as well as 2D-HMBC spectroscopy. Part 2: The synthetic utility of 2-thioxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitriles 3, 4 and 4-oxo-6-phenyl-2-thioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carbonitrile (19) as building blocks for novel bis-and poly(pyridines) as well as bis- and poly(pyrimidines) via alkylation with the corresponding bis-and poy(halo) compounds was investigated. Spectroscopic and theoretical studies confirmed the S-alkylation rather than the N-alkylation. The structures of all compounds are confirmed based on different spectral tools | ||
