520 _aMany coastal zones face problems of deterioration of their environment, socio-economic and natural resources. World nations concerns are to establish an international framework for the protection of the environment and sustainable development of coastal and marine resources where the coastal environment requires an integrated management of strong interactions among the various elements that sustain coastal areas, as they are focal areas of cities. Integrated coastal zone mManagement is a tool for a sustainable approach to managing the various challenges in coastal areas in Egypt where they are developed randomly and lack effective management systems that exploit resources fully. Therefore, this research aims to formulate a scientific methodology for integrated coastal zone management that includes all sustainability factors to ensure effective planning. The Government of Egypt, represented by the Egyptian environmental Affairs agency is currently preparing the Alexandria integrated coastal zone management project at lake mariout, which has expected to have important positive environmental impacts with the objective of contributing to a reduction in the load of land-based sources of pollution entering the Mediterranean Sea
