520 _aThe first experiment : Seeds for the study were produced at the Agricultural Experiment Station of the Faculty of Agriculture , Cairo University during summer seasons of 2003 and 2004Cowpea seeds cvsAzmerly and Kaha 1 were sown on April 7 , 2003 and April 17 , 2004 and were harvested onug25 , 2003 and Sep3 , 2004fter harvesting 85 kg of each cultivar were delivered to the Stored Products Laboratory , Depof Economic Entomology and Pesticides , Faculty of Agriculture , Cairo University , to study the effect of controlledtmosphere with three gas mixtures 80in hundred CO2+4in hundredO2+16in hundred N2 , 60in hundred CO2+8in hundredO2+32in hundredN and 40in hundred CO2+12in hundred O2+48in hundredN2 and nine exposure period on infestation percentage by callosobruchus maculatus , weight loss , germination percentage , moisture content , protein fraction , total hydrolyzable carbohydrate and some subsequent growth of stored seedsThe seeds treated with gas mixture containing 80in hundredCO2+4in hundredO2 showed the lowest infestation , weight loss , moisture content percentage and highest germination percentage , albumin , globulin , glutenin , total crude protein , total hydrolyzable carbohydrate and chlorophyll content of seedlingUntreated seeds showed the highest infestation , weight loss , moisture content percentage and lowest germination percentage , albumin , globulin , glutenin , total crude protein , total hydrolyzable carbohydrate and chlorophyll content of seedling
