520 | _aDuring the last decade the use of wireless communication devices had become very common in our daily life. The spread of mobile phone use increased concerns about their possible adverse effects due to radiofrequency electromagnetic field exposure caused by these wireless devices. Several studies have shown that mobile phone could induce oxidative stress as a result of overproduction of reactive oxygen species or inhibition of antioxidant enzymes. Aim of work: To evaluate oxidative stress marker (malondialdyde) and antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase and catalase) among the studied group. Then study the effects of antioxidants supplementation among them. Methods: Sample includes 150 nursing students, from Technical Nursing Institute and from Faculty of nursing Cairo university, using mobile phones. Study phases: I. Pre intervention phase (a. Assessment of electromagnetic field exposure b. Evaluation of oxidative stress.) II. Intervention Phase (The selected study group were given antioxidants for 2 months) and III. Post intervention phase (Re-evaluation of oxidative stress and detect changes). Results: The mean age of the studied group was (18.39±0.49). Heavy mobile phone users showed more oxidative stress than others. Vitamins supplementation improved antioxidant enzymes meanwhile the oxidative stress did not improve due to continued mobile exposure. Conclusion: Mobile phones have adverse effects on health that antioxidants can be ameliorated. It is important to develop the technology, having mobiles with less emission and life style modification on using mobile phones and other electronic devices | ||
