520 _aThe thesis deals with; the banking transactions, payments landscape and liquidity management in Egypt. Expanding the current payments landscape given the available payment systems is the main scope of the study. Short-term investments lately are gaining more attention due to increasing risks in the various types of markets. Examining the current condition in Egypt and the international standards help in raising the efficiency of the national payment systems to better serve the economy. This can be achieved by the smooth functioning of the payment systems and updating them to include more features that serve banks and clients at the same time. International and regional experiences also play a major role in engaging the national systems with the international ones. The study aimed at answering the main question which is what are the opportunities and challenges in front of the central bank of Egypt to expand the payment systems landscape and update the current payment systems. The study is divided into three chapters. The first chapter covers along its four sections the types of banking transactions and payments, their effects on the economic perspectives and the banking sector specifically, the liquidity management, needs, concepts and daily strategies gave the economic conditions. In addition to this, the macroeconomic and microeconomic aspects are dealt with in section three while section four discusses payment systems from an economic point of view.
