| 520 | _aObjective: to assess the results of near cortex overdrilling as a technique for dynamic locked plates in distal femoral fractures Background: Distal femur fractures are relatively common injuries and present considerable challenges in management. No single method of management has overcome all of the problems associated with this injury. Internal fixation of the distal femur can be difficult for several reasons: thin cortices, a wide medullary canal, compromised bone stock, and fracture comminution that make stable internal fixation often difficult to achieve. Methods: Twenty patients with 20 distal femoral fractures were managed by minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis using dynamic locking technique through near cortex overdrilling and followed up at orthopedic department, Kasr Al-Ainy hospital over period from April 2015 to March 2016. Results: The average union time in our case series was 13.4 weeks. We encountered a zero non union rate. Zero incidence of second procedures. We report a delayed union of 10% which eventually developed full union within 6 months. Only one case (5%) of postoperative malreduction was encountered. No cases of loss of reduction over the period of follow up. No secondary surgeries were required for any case. No case of catastrophic implant failure or loss of fixation | ||
