520 _aMain objective: This study aims to estimate the intergenerational poverty persistence and social mobility in Egypt using the Egypt labor market panel surveys (ELMPSs). The analysis in this study is based on data of only two waves (1998, 2012). Problem definition: This study tried to address all types of movements across poverty categories over time which is extremely important to design appropriate interventions to improve welfare. Individuals who moved into poverty or moved out of it are more likely to need short- term relief, through insurance or income stabilization interventions. Individuals who stayed in poverty are more likely to need structural changes in terms of their education, employment, health status, and assets, thus providing cash transfers to them are inappropriate, cash transfers have temporary impact, but they will soon be in poverty again, what they need is to build their human capacities to be able to maintain sustainable income
