520 _aDiabetes is a fast-growing health problem in Egypt with a significant impact onmorbidity, mortality, and health care resources. Currently, the prevalence of type-2 diabetes (T2D) in Egypt is around 15.6% of all adults aged 20 to 79. Oxidative stress (OS) has been suggested to be an important mechanism in the development of T2D complications. In the antioxidative system, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) acts as a key factor in mechanisms to mitigate oxidative stress because of its potent antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and antiproliferative actions. In addition, impaired HO-1 protein expression/activity may be related to the pathogenic process induced by OS. HO-1 gene promoter polymorphisms modulate its transcription in response to oxidative stress. This study screened for HO-1 polymorphisms and investigated the association between HO-1 polymorphisms and ROS levels in the serumin Egyptian diabetic population in comparison to control group. This study includes 3 groups: one hundred healthy subjects (control group), one hundred type {u2160} diabetic (T1D) patients and one hundred and fourteen T2D patients
