Up to 10{u2013}15% of maternal deaths & 20 % perinatal mortality are directly associated with pre-eclampsia and eclampsia in developing countries. The (HELLP) syndrome is a serious complication in pregnancy characterized by hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelet count occurring in 0.4 to 0.7% of all pregnancies and in 10-12% of cases with severe preeclampsia.
