520 _aThis study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using the discovery-based strategy in developing novel reading comprehension skills among secondary school students. The participants were 60 students chosen randomly from Zawyt Sultan Secondary School students during the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=30) which was instructed through using the discovery-based strategy and a control group (n= 30) which was taught using the regular strategy. The instruments of the study included a checklist of the suggested novel reading comprehension skills and a novel reading comprehension skills test administered to the two groups before and after implementing the discovery-based strategy on the experimental group. The results revealed that the discovery-based strategy had a large effect on developing the students{u201F} novel learning such as recognizing of explicitly stated information and cause {u2013}effect relationships as well as inferring character traits {u201E}{u201E}characterization{u201F}{u201F} and figurative language 2simile, irony and satire3. However, the strategy had a little effect on enhancing the students{u201F} inferring of comparisons and contrasts and the implicitly stated moral lessons in addition to recognizing the author{u201F}s point of view and sequence of events
