520 _aAt present, more attention has been focused on the cultivated plants in Egypt.Taxonomic aspects of the two genera Manilkara Adans. and Mimusops L. (Sapoteae, Sapotaceae) were thoroughly studied to point out the most reliable characters for taxon delimitation. Variations in the vegetative, floral, as well as fruit and seed characters are good markers to separate different species. This study revealed the presence of 6 species related to both genera, of which Mimusops kummel and M. zeyheri are new additions. Micromorphological studies revealed the presence of 2 types of trichomes on the adaxial leaves; eglandular, unbranched simple and branched 2-armed hairs. Numerical analysis program was performed using UPGMA and PCA cluster analysis for clarifying the phenetic relationships among the taxa under investigation. Our results revealed that the data obtained from numerical support macromorpholological investigations. Species identification using DNA sequences known as ITS confirm the identification of the taxa and construct the phylogenetic tree. The data obtained partially separated Manilkara from Mimusops; but the method doesn't always work when applied to Mimusops species. This is presumably due to erroneous identification. Phytochemically, Manilkara zapota is the best antioxidant. Manilkara and Mimusops can be differentiated by the presence of quercetin in Manilkara species, while luteolin in Mimusops.Twelve phenolic compounds were detected by HPLC.The major phenolic compound obtained was rutin, while the major flavonoids were kaempferol and myricetin in all plant extracts. Microbiological study showed significant antibacterial activities against the five tested bacterial strains. The MIC and MBC values ranged from 3.15-12.5 og/ml. In addition, the antibacterial mechanism of Mimusops laurifolia extract induces ultrastructural changes in the model bacterium Staphylococcus aureus
