520 _aThis research aimed to explore the status of green finance in Egypt which contributes to environmental preservation and supports against its vulnerability to climate change risks. The research begins by reviewing the literature on green finance in addition to studying two global case studies. Furthermore, in-depth personal interviews were conducted with a sample of financial institutions and regulators to review the status of green finance in the Egyptian financial sector.Through applying an empirical model using time series data of Egypt, it was found that the more banks{u2019} credit provided to the private sector, the higher the carbon emissions which strengthens the need for greening the financial sector. The research concluded that green finance is premature in Egypt, however there is promising potential to transform the financial sector to consider environmental sustainability through financing green projects, as well as integrating environmental risks in risk management policies
