520 _aCopper is one of the first metals used by human. It is an essential trace element with a great importance in the normal functioning and maintenance of a large number of body systems. Developing a selective, sensitive, and easily prepared sensor for the determination of Cu(II) ions in different samples is of great importance. Herein, a new highly selective and sensitive Cu(II) ions modified carbon paste electrode (MCPE) based on 2-(3-phenoxy phenyl) propanoic acid (Fenoprofen (FP)) as Cu(II) selective modifier was developed.The proposed sensor exhibited a good Nernstian slope of 29.9±0.15 mV decade-1 in the linear concentration range of 1.0 {u00D7}10⁻⁶ to 1.0 {u00D7} 10⁻² mol L⁻¹. Also, the electrode showed a fast response time of 6 s and the potentiometric response of the proposed MCPE was pH-independent in the range of 3.0{u2013} 5.0. The electrode can be also used in a partially non-aqueous media containing up to 25% (v/v) acetone or methanol with no significant change in the slope or the working concentration range. The proposed electrode showed fairly high selectivity toward Cu(II) ions in comparison with many other metal ions.The electrode was applied successfully for the Cu(II) ions determination in different food samples. Furthermore, the electrode surface was characterized using energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) as surface characterization techniques to confirm the interaction between Cu(II) ions and FP
