520 _aSpinal Column Injuries (SCI) can result in devastating the functional status for the patientIt can be physical , psychological or social due to prolonged immobilityThe aim of this study was to assess the functional status among patients with spinal column injuriessample of convenience of one hundred patients was selected from orthopedic wards at El Manial University Hospital affiliated to Cairo UniversityData were collected utilizing three designed tools ; socio - demographic data , medical data and Functional Status Rating System Scale in relation to self care , mobility , communication , psychosocial adjustment and cognitive function ; an observation sheet including the most common physical complications among patients with SCIThe study findings revealed that , there are statistically significant relationships between the items of self care , communi - cation , psychosocial adjustment and severity of the disease , while there are no statistically significant relationships between the items of cognitive function and the severity of illnessThe most common physical complications among those patients are constipation , pressure ulcer , urinary tract infection , urine and stool incontinence , chest infection , and deep venous thrombosisThe study recommended that health education of patients and family should be provided to maximize the injured individual's potential for full participation in activities of daily living and prevent secondary complications
